This 12 week, 155 hour course provides EMT students with the confidence, skills and knowledge to pass their National Registry exam. This fast-paced, hybrid-style course prepares students for the demanding field of emergency medicine by providing each student with the clinical information and hands-on skills to ensure their success as field clinicians. Students receive comprehensive education in topics such as cardiology, respiratory, pharmacology, neurological, endocrinology, obstetrics & gynecologic emergencies and traumatic injuries. Throughout the course, students will obtain additional certifications required for employment following their completion of the course and their National Registry testing. Students will obtain certifications in Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA compliance, American Heart Association CPR/AED, HAZMAT Awareness, Mass Casualty Incident Management I & II, as well as a West Virginia BLS Protocol In-Service to prepare them for in-state employment. This comprehensive education in the aforementioned topics is coupled with the incorporation of our high-fidelity simulation labs physician-grade CAE Apollo simulation manikins and/or live role players as students begin applying the knowledge and skills they have gained in class to real-time medical and trauma scenarios.

Students will also begin completing filed clinical shifts with local ambulance agencies. Students are required to obtain 10 “patient-contacts” to meet the requirements to sit for the National Registry exam, but we always encourage obtaining as many patients as possible during clinical rotations.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, clinical requirements and skills testing, students will be permitted and prepared to sit for their National Registry EMT cognitive exam.
